To install Google Language Translator (GLT), you must have a working version of WordPress already installed, preferably the most recent version.
To install GLT:
Install a working version of WordPress. For information in regard to installing the WordPress platform, please see the WordPress Codex. Visit the Wordpress Codex by Clicking Here
Update WordPress: To ensure a positive user experience, we highly recommend you update your WordPress to the latest stable version 3.6.1+. This will help to ensure that you are able to utilize all of the latest features of WordPress.
Locate the plugin file package. In the download package you will find google-language-translator.zip. Use this as the installation in step #4 below. DO NOT USE the main download file that you received from our website - it is the incorrect file and Wordpress will not recognize it.
Install the Plugin file. You can install the theme in two ways:
Via WordPress (recommended): From Wordpress Dashboard, navigate to Plugins > Add New. Click the Upload link at top and locate your file by using the Browse... button. Click Install Now to upload and install the plugin.
Via FTP: Extract the google-language-translator folder from the google-language-translator.zip file, then upload the google-language-translator folder to '/wp-content/plugins/' on your server.
Activate the plugin. To do so, navigate to Plugins > Installed Plugins. Find Google Language Translator and click 'Activate'.
View the Settings panel. You should now see a new sub-menu item labeled Google Language Translator under your Settings menu in Wordpress Dashboard.
Configure the plugin. Navigate to the settings panel as you did in #6 above - all of your options can be configured on this page.
Updating your plugin is simple. You will download the plugin file package directly from your account at Wordpress Studios, where you bought the plugin originally. After you download the latest version of the plugin, follow the instructions below.
IMPORTANT: Before updating your plugin, backup your plugin folder and download it to your computer locally. If anything goes wrong during the update, you can always re-install the backup to ensure no information is lost.
You can update your plugin in two ways:
Overwrite the entire plugin folder. Download the latest version of GLT and then upload it through FTP to the /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
Re-upload the plugin via the WordPress admin panel. Navigate to Plugins > Installed Plugins, then locate Google Language Translator and place a check mark next to it. Then scroll to the top of your installed plugins list, and you will find a drop-down box labeled Bulk Actions (on top left of your plugins list). Choose Delete then click the Apply button directly to the right. You will remove the existing version of GLT. Now you can re-upload the latest version of google-language-translator.zip, and re-activate the plugin.
Configuring GLT is simple. First you will need to confirm that you can access the settings panel located in Settings > Google Language Translator. If you are unable to access this page, please review the Installation section above to install and activate the plugin properly.
Follow these steps to begin setting up your plugin:
Confirm that the plugin is activated. Your plugin will be activated if you see a checkmark next to the Plugin Status: setting:
Confirm that the Preview box displays the following:
All of these should display immediately once the plugin is activated. If you do not see any of these items, just continue through the remaining steps for now. After configuring the remaining settings, these items may become active once settings are saved. If you complete all of the steps below, and you still do not see the translator in the preview box, navigate to the troubleshooting section below for further help.
Choose the default language of your website.
The default language is important because in some installations of the Google Translate tool (not in this plugin), you can choose to prompt users with a pop-up translation bar once they arrive to your website. This translation bar would provide your visitors the opportunity to translate the website from it's original language, to the user's preferred language. This would normally happen before the GLT plugin begins to function.
However, the Google Language Translator plugin disabled this functionality to make things more clean and simple. Users will not be prompted to translate your webpages until they change languages via the Google Language Translator.
Choose the theme style you want to display for the language drop-down.
By default, the plugin is set to display the "Elegant" theme, which is preferred by many users. The Elegant theme is nice because it was designed to load simultaneously with your webpages, and also has a more robust design that's powered by jQuery to create a more user-friendly experience.
The "Classic" theme is based on Google's standard translation tool, which has a more basic design. In addition, the Classic version initializes AFTER your entire webpage is loaded. In many cases you will not see the language drop-down appear until 1-3 seconds after your page loads. However, the Classic theme is much less complex and works great if you prefer having simple design and functionality.
Choose which languages you want to display in the language drop-down.
This option is available with both Classic and Elegant versions, and provides you full control over which drop-down languages are shown to your users. If you choose All Languages, then all 70 languages will appear in the drop-down menu.
By choosing Specific Languages, a new section will appear allowing you to place a check mark next to each individual language you want to display. Those languages without a check mark will be disabled from showing in the language drop-down.

Choose whether to show or hide flags. This option shows or hides the flag display area shown above the language drop-down. By choosing to hide flags, the user will be limited to using language drop-down to translate your webpage.
By choosing to show flags, an new section will appear allowing you to choose up to 70 flag images that display to your website visitors. When a flag image is clicked by your website visitor, the webpage will then translate to that corresponding language.
Place a check mark next to each individual flag that you want displayed.

Choose to show or hide the language translation box.
This is a useful setting if you have limited space on your website to provide language translation. If you choose Hide Language Box, only flags will be displayed to your website visitors. This will save space. And by having full control over your flag sizes, you will have plenty of flexibility in positioning them exactly as you want.

Choose Vertical or Horizontal Layout.
Choose Vertical layout when you have a comfortable amount of vertical space available. Most users choose vertical layout when placing the translator in posts, pages, or in the sidebar. Vertical layout also works for the header and footer areas, assuming there's enough space available. We always suggest trying the Vertical layout first, since it's the easiest layout to control in terms of positioning.
Choose Horizontal layout when you have a limited amount of vertical space available. Some users choose horizontal layout when they need to fit the translator in the header or footer areas. We recommend using horizontal layout only when you are not able to accommodate the size of the vertical layout.

Choose to show or hide the Google Language Toolbar:.
By choosing Show Google Toolbar, a translation toolbar will display at the top of your website after the user chooses a new language.
Note: the toolbar will not display on your website until the user switches to a new language.
When the toolbar appears, the user will be able to change languages directly from the toolbar, or from the plugin itself. Any languages changes will be reflected in both the toolbar AND the language drop-down on your webpage.
The user can turn-off the toolbar while viewing a page by clicking " X " in the top-right area of the toolbar, although the toolbar will re-appear once the user changes languages, or navigates to another page on your website.

Choose the alignment of the translator:.
The translator can be aligned to the left or right, and it will float to the nearest edge of the HTML element that surrounds it. See the screenshots below:
Depending on the width of the surrounding HTML element, the translator may align farther left/right than expected, and it might be necessary to position the translator using additional CSS styles. You can add CSS styles in the CSS Overrides box located in the right column of your settings page. See the screenshot below:
Google Analytics is a free tool that allows webmasters to track important information about visitors or events on their website. Fortunately, Google provides the capability for Google Language Translator to communicate directly with Google Analytics. If you do not already have a Google Analytics account, click here to sign up for a free account. You will need to create your Google Analytics account before using the GLT plugin with Google Analytics.
Once your Google Analytics account is established, configuring GLT is easy.
In your settings panel, find the setting labeled "Google Analytics" and place a check mark next to "Activate Google Analytics Tracking" as shown below:
Once a check mark is placed, a new field labeled "Google Analytics ID" will appear. Now that you have a Google Analytics account, retrieve your Google Analytics "Account ID" and enter it into this field. (Note: your Google Analytics Account ID will look like this: UA-11117410-2).
Save your settings. You are now ready to use the GLT plugin with Google Analytics!
Although we are unable to provide an in-depth tutorial for using Google Analytics, we want you to understand how to access translation data directly from your Google Analytics account. We have also provided some screenshots below to help you understand fully where you can access this information.
Sign in to your Google Analytics account.
You will see the main account screen, as shown below. Click on the website account that you wish to display.
You should arrive at this page here, called Audience Overview.
In the left menu, navigate to Behavior > Events > Top Events, as show below.
Now you can scroll down and find three "Primary Dimension" labels (i.e. Event Category, Event Action, Event Label). Click "Event Label", and you will arrive at the page shown below. Here you can view the language translations that were detected on your website. Cool stuff!
Considering the vast difference among Wordpress themes, along with any other specific website environments that exist, there might be times when Google Language Translator does not function as expected. Issues are bound to arise, especially when it comes to CSS display issues or conflicts with other Wordpress plugins.
We are confident that most functionality issues have been dealt with in earlier phases of testing. However, you might experience issues if your specific website has functionality that conflicts with that of Google Language Translator, or if there's something specific about your Wordpress theme that we have not already encountered. Or the problem could very well be a mistake on our part, which we are willing to fix on the spot for you.
The good news is that in all cases, we are confident in being able to fix it. There have not yet been any major issues that have gone unsolved. If you experience an issue with our plugin, and you are unable to fix it on your own, we recommend following the steps below before contacting support (although we don't mind you coming directly to us first):
